RGL CONTEST UPDATE

The producers of RGL met on Sunday, 10/12/2010 with Daddy Ruben, the contest producer, and 12 co-producers, committee chairs and community representatives to discuss how to respond to the unexpected loss of Sidewinders Bar as the RGL contest venue. This is a community event and we wanted to have as much input from the community as possible. Going into the meeting, it appeared that the best option for maintaining this year's contest would have involved moving the contest to take place during the RGL Weekend Event. Important factors that were taken into consideration included the availability of judges, additional unbudgeted expenses, and level of interest among contestant applicants.

After extensive discussion, the group reached unanimous consensus that the wisest decision our community could make would be to cancel this year's contest, so that RGL and our local community could extend our best efforts to support our current 2010 RGL titleholders, IML Tyler and IMsL Bootblack Jayson DaBoi, both of whom will have ongoing responsibilities to carry out the duties of their international titles. The assembled group felt that it simply would not make sense for our local community to recruit - and try to support - two additional local titleholders during a year when our current titleholders are in great need of additional support.

The assembled group of community representatives certainly discussed how this decision to cancel the current contest might impact on contests in the future. The consensus of the group discussion was that the contest will certainly continue in the future if there is community support for the contest. This group recognizes that titleholders, contests, and organizations are outgrowths and expressions of the community in which they exist. It should go without saying, then, that Titleholders, contests and organizations can only have meaning if they reflect the will of the communities from which they arise.

RGL is so proud of all of the titleholders that this community has produced and we look forward to welcoming and supporting our future titleholders. However, the real thanks should go to the efforts of so many in the community who have contributed to the opportunity for Tyler and Jayson to represent all of us so brilliantly in national and international events. Our New Mexico community is truly blessed with this year's blaze of national and international recognition that seldom touches even the best organized and largest of communities. RGL is particularly grateful to those individuals and organizations in our community who have already done so much to support our titleholders, and it is important to recognize that RGL is but one part of an ever-growing community of vibrant leather, kink and fetish organizations that come together to support so many events and causes throughout each year.

We hope that this year's RGL Weekend Event will be an opportunity for this wonderful community to once again come together to support our titleholders and celebrate our community unity and diversity. Please come out and support our titleholders and our community as you find your own Path of Fire at RGL 2011.
